How did that recent article, blog, or social media post perform? What about that app? It’s a question that all execs should be asking their team. You don’t have to be an analytics expert, however, to discuss analytics. Just get the numbers guy or girl to pull the data, have them put it into layman's terms for you, and have them make a pretty chart. You’ll certainly impress your colleagues on your next sales call, or during your staff meetings armed with key data tied to big projects.
Evaluating the data you gather can help you gain deep insights into how your audience interacts with your content, tools, videos, etc. It can also help you better understand their interests and measure the success of an online “campaign.” Then, if necessary, you can use the data to make iterative improvements.
Here are some of the top web terms you should know if you are managing a website.
- Bounce rate: the percentage of visitors who leave a website instead of viewing more pages. These visitors land on a particular page, usually through a search engine, but then leave the site rather than going in deeper. Bounce rate may also be referred to as an exit rate.

This type of metric can be used for the purposes of marketing or affiliate marketing, or simply to measure the popularity or viral status of a particular post or object. This is very similar to a page view.
